Report on a Christmas trip to Vienna

Introduction:

As a student of Jesenice Grammar School, I was asked to write a report on a Christmas trip to Vienna that took place on the 6th to 7th of December 2019. The purpose of this report is to evaluate the trip and present the writer’s opinion on such OIV activities.

Organisation:

Students were informed about the trip through Email sent by a history teacher. Two teachers, the principal of the Jesenice Grammar School and a tour guide accompanied the students, guided and checked their presence throughout the entire trip. The meeting point was behind the theatre Tone Čufar at 5 am and arrival at the same place. The overnight staying with breakfast at 7 am included was in a youth hostel. The total cost was 140 Euros.

The trip:

The trip began by driving through the Karavanke tunnel and past Villach, Klagenfurt and Graz to Vienna. The first outpost was the Schönbrunn Palace. Here can be seen the maze, the Museum of court carriages, the Glorieta, the Palm House and the ZOO. Afterwards, a ride on the town ring followed, from which was seen the Austrian Parliament, the Vienna City Hall, the Opera House and the University. The bus stopped at Plečnik’s Holy Spirit Church. Then it was time for a stroll around the town leading to the Hofburg Palace. The last sight was the silverware collection and the Sisi Museum. The day ended with a ride to the youth hostel, accommodation and the overnight stay.

The second day brought more sightseeing after breakfast. First across the Danube River to the Danube Tower. Then Hundertwasser’s architecture was noticeable along the Danube Canal. Return to the town and visit Belvedere mansion, later past St. Charles Church and at last a visit to the evening Christmas market. Students were driven home at 5.30 pm and arrived at 11 pm.

Students opinion:

Most of the students were satisfied with the trip without any complaints. Others complained about a significantly low temperature or too many details from the tour guide; however, no one had a terrible time.

Personal Comments:

In my opinion, the trip was spectacular with fantastic food, enormously large buildings and excellent guidance. The temperature was really low and it was quite windy, particularly in the centre of the town; however, we also needed to be very careful about personal belongings, because thefts are common in big cities. Sometimes, the tour guide became slightly annoying with too much talking; nevertheless, the whole experience was unforgettable.
